Center Director

Photo of Richard Vierling

Dr. Richard Vierling has served as Center Director at Vernon since 2017.  He leads research programs dealing with beef cattle nutrition and health, wheat breeding and genetics, pest management and crop stress, environmental quality, and natural resource management for a multidisciplinary team of scientists and staff.  He is also the Director at Texas Foundation Seed Service, where he leads the production and marketing of germplasm. Expertise

Specialties include genetics, plant breeding, molecular biology, technology transfer, commercialization, and business development.

Prior Assignments

Previously, Dr. Vierling served as Director of Research & Business Development for the National Corn Growers Association.  Prior to that, he was Genetics Program Director for the Indiana Crop Improvement Association and had an appointment in the Department of Agronomy at Purdue University.
